“Which Year Are You?” is an exhibition at MODEM, the Modern and Contemporary Art Centre in Debrecen. The exhibition is selected from MODEM’s own collection. You can visit it from 30 March 2024 to 11 January 2026. Here you can see paintings, photos, sculptures, and other contemporary artworks. The works come from the last 18 years of collecting, buying, and donations. About fifty artists ’works are included. The artworks are not arranged by art style. They are arranged by the artists ’year of birth. In the rooms, signs help you, for example: Boomer, Gen X, Millennial, Gen Z. This way you can see different age groups ’art next to each other. Two curators created the exhibition: Szabolcs Süli-Zakar and Krisztián Gábor Török. The exhibition asks a simple question: what does it mean to belong to a “generation”? You may find a part that feels close to your own experiences. “Founders” are artists born between 1900 and 1925. “Veterans” were born between 1926 and 1945. “Baby Boomers” were born between 1946 and 1964. “Gen X” were born between 1965 and 1980. “Millennials” (Gen Y) were born between 1981 and 1995. “Gen Z” were born between 1996 and 2012, and the youngest people are often mentioned as “Alpha.”
