1. Design is…<\/strong><\/p>\n

My whole life is built around this concept. My favourite profession, which interests me, fascinates me, it\u2019s still work, but it\u2019s a pleasure doing it. All my friends, acquaintances, my job is connected to design.<\/p>\n

2. The Russian design? Three important names, three merits, three faults \u2013 yesterday, today and tomorrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Russian design is very eclectic. Presumably it\u2019s peculiarity lies in that, just as Russia\u2019s, which is neither West nor East. We look East with one of the heads of the double-headed eagle on the Russian coat of arms, while with the other we look West. In consequence, the Russian designers have many various influences. However, I can\u2019t say that there is a characteristic Russian school. There are, of course, extraordinary, individual personalities, who mark Russian design with their work, but they are all very different, they don\u2019t resemble each other at all. There are some, who are oriented towards one direction, while others towards a different one. It\u2019s an assembly of top-quality and interesting designers and design ideas.<\/p>\n

3. What is the heritage of the Russian avant-garde for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Avant-garde is the cocoon in which we live, and of which we take no notice. It\u2019s always with us, but we don\u2019t communicate with it all the time. Just like when a child is born in a particular environment and then keeps existing in it. This is the avant-garde that I love and that I\u2019ve studied a lot of times, and which is presumably storeddeep inside of me. However, I don\u2019t rely continuosly on the Russian avant-garde, it is not a daily dialogue with the artist and designers of the time.<\/p>\n

4. Who from world designers have influenced to you the most?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to name anyone who had influence on me, however, I like a lot of designers. I look around a lot, we have a huge library, we\u2019ve always bought books. However, today a lot of things can be found on the Internet, so I always follow what\u2019s going on.Names… I\u2019m simply afraid of leaving someone out. I like the Japanese school, the French, the Dutch, the Swiss schools.I know a lot of designers personally, I love and respect them.<\/p>\n

5. How could you formulate the essence of your author’s creative concept? Your way in design? Your style?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to define it, others should describe my style, in which I work, if I have one. But I tell you how I would like to see it. Design has many essences, many goals. There are functional goals, educational goals, so various types. I\u2019d like that what I\u2019m engaged in should be entertaining, shouldn\u2019t be boring, that my graphical works should be very interesting with their compositional solutions, with their colour schemes. Besides, I have a lot of works that get on the stage, in museums, exhibitions, so that are strongly connected to entertainment.<\/p>\n
