Description
In recent years, MODEM has placed increasing emphasis on collaborations with various cultural, museum, and educational institutions. In a sense, this exhibition takes that approach to a new level, as MODEM issued a call for submissions through the Association of Hungarian Rural Museums, resulting in a showcase of the collective thinking and work of more than 20 rural museums.
“ It was essential that each institution itself determine the image represented by the collection pieces it presented, so we asked the institutions to provide a list of approximately 50 artworks, regardless of medium or genre. We selected the works to be exhibited from these lists. We strove to ensure that our selection reflected the focal points of each institution’s collection. The resulting selection also offers an opportunity to showcase, through the featured works, not only the mainstream of art discourse but also diverse perspectives on local identity and cultural heritage. “ – says Tamás Don, one of the exhibition’s curators.
The exhibition’s significance is further enhanced by the fact that opportunities for such a comprehensive overview of Hungarian fine arts have been quite rare to date.
