Her art work encompasses a wide range of materials and techniques, including textiles and embroidery, multimedia installations, video and 3D animation. Her work focuses on storytelling and the possible connections between traditional crafts and modern technology, highlighting the contrast between the organic and the artificial by juxtaposing nature and technology, while also demonstrating their inseparability. Nature, especially local and indigenous plants, is a major influence on Lazăr’s art. By using plant elements, she creates a symbolic language that transcends geographical boundaries and refers to the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Thea Lazăr’s World series of textile works hung on the ceiling form a constellation of speculative worlds overgrown with flowering plants. Projected from images of vegetation, these spherical maps of plants that can survive in the harshest conditions become soft planets in a solar system that demonstrates monocultural adaptability and survival.
