Fracture for Man – Art heritage of Erzsébet Schaár sculptor

2009. Jun. 21. - 2009. Jul. 31.

Erzsébet Schaár is one of the most important Hungarian sculptors of the 20th century. The nuanced thematization of femininity is evident in her artistic language: her figures are mostly young girls, and the metaphysical redefinition of the female principle is a constant subject of her works. One of her typical motifs is the death mask. The MODEM exhibition entitled Fracture for Man presented recently discovered works from the artistic legacy of Erzsébet Schaár. The works, mostly made of plaster and consisting of death masks and imprints of the human body, had been lying in the attic of the artist’s former house for decades.
