New World. Contemporary Canadian Print Art

2013. Mar. 31. - 2013. Jun. 23.

MODEM’s large-scale selection featured over half a hundred works by contemporary Canadian print artists. The twelve artists in the exhibition live and work in different provinces of Canada, but they all share a dedication and passion for the art of print, whether traditional paper-ink or cutting-edge digital techniques. For the group presentation, each artist created a new work, with an additional curiosity in the form of a highly topical, shared theme. Stereotypically associating the word New World – the 18th century name for the exhibiting artists’ country – with the era and conditions of European colonialism, the artists sought to answer the question of identity for Canadians who embraced foreign cultures.
