The Island of Freedom – Selection from the Collection of the Ferenczy Museum Center

2016. Aug. 07. - 2016. Nov. 06.

Filling two floors of the art centre, covering some 2,000 square metres, the exhibition – the first presentation of the Ferenczy Museum Centre’s collection outside Szentendre – is a major showcase of modern and contemporary Hungarian art. The nearly 250 works on display gave a unique picture of over a hundred years of Hungarian art, from naturalism to constructivism, surrealism, abstraction and public art.  Within the collection, the material presented highlighted the artists who have left us extraordinary works and life’s work in the history of Hungarian art, emphasising the emblematic and exemplary work of Lajos Vajda, Endre Bálint, Dezső Korniss, Margit Anna and Imre Ámos, and the legacy of Jenő Barcsay, Béla Czóbel and János Kmetty, whose legacy has had an impact on several generations. The selection also featured the work of the Lajos Vajda Studio and contemporary artists from Szentendre (including Pál Deim, Péter Bereznai, István efZámbó, László FeLugossy, Rudolf Pacsika, Ottó Vincze, András Wahorn), which was on view in a special section on the top floor of MODEM. In connection with this section, a film by Lajos Vajda Studio was shown every week for a month and a half in the MODEM café.
