The majestic geometry. A selection from the Vass and Antal-Lusztig collections

2014. Jul. 13. - 2014. Oct. 05.

The exhibition traced the history of modern and avant-garde art in Hungary through the dialogue between two prominent Hungarian art collections. The concept was based on the idea that the history of twentieth-century art was not really shaped by the opposing forces of realism and abstraction, but rather by the dialectic, or even dialogue, of these two different aesthetic tendencies. The exhibition thus not only juxtaposed the parallel histories of two collections, assembled from similar rather than divergent perspectives, but also focused explicitly on initiating a dialogue between pure abstraction and traditional representation of nature through the notion of the sublime.
