Zone. The past five years of the Élesdi Artists’ Workshop

2013. Jan. 19. - 2013. Apr. 07.

In the Romanian town of Aleşd, ten or so Hungarian artists, some of Transylvanian origin, set up an art colony ten years after the fall of communism. Five of them (Imre Barna Balázs, Zsolt Bodoni, Levente Herman, Mózes Incze and Sándor Szász) were students at the Art Lyceum in Târgu Mures and continued their studies at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Since 1997, the members of the Artists’ Colony have held a month-long workshop in Aleşd every year. They have had several exhibitions in Hungary, Transylvania and abroad, and several of the group have become internationally renowned artists. Their largest joint exhibition to date was held in 2007 at the Ernst Museum in Budapest on the tenth anniversary of the founding of the artists’ collective.
