Receptors. Hilda Kozári’s multisensory intervention in the Antal–Lusztig Collection
2017. Jun. 25. - 2018. Jan. 14.
The exhibition Receptors – Hilda Kozári’s Multisensory Intervention in the Antal–Lusztig Collection, curated jointly by visual artist Hilda Kozári and art historian Katalin Nagy T., creates a unique sensory connection between the collection, contemporary works, and exhibition visitors. The diversity and richness of the collection allowed the curators to exhibit works that reinforce the multisensory concept of the exhibition, making the reception and interpretation of the works more complex.
Although we perceive most works of art primarily with our eyes, the enjoyment and interpretation of artworks is a complex process. Hilda Kozári, who lives in Finland, has been exploring the combined role of the different senses in her works and exhibitions for many years. In addition to studying scents and associations, her thinking and art have been most influenced by projects created with visually impaired young people. Braille often appears in her works, in various materials and sizes, often in a playful form. In the spirit of Hilda Kozári’s art, the exhibition aims to make the works accessible through poetic solutions that go beyond “tangible” accessibility. The exhibition activates all of the visitors’ senses; with the help of receptors in the brain, we can see, hear, smell, and touch the works, and some of them can even stimulate our taste buds. Visitors accustomed to the position of “viewer” can now gain completely new receptive experiences through touch and smell, surfaces and scents.
