Description
Timelines was published as the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name held at MODEM in Debrecen from 26 August to 26 November 2023.
This Hungarian-language volume fills a gap in existing publications by exploring the history of the Esterházy family. Through the influence of its members, the history of this aristocratic family is closely interwoven with Hungarian and European history. In his practice, Marcell Esterházy frequently works with family archives and found archival materials, appropriating and reinterpreting them. His poetic approach juxtaposes grand historical narratives with personal family stories.
The volume includes an interview with the artist conducted by the exhibition’s curators, Emese Mucsi and Tamás Don, during preparations for the exhibition. It offers insights into Esterházy’s life, sources of inspiration, and artistic outlook.
Alongside essays, the publication features the exhibited works and accompanying curatorial commentaries, as well as additional works that together provide a detailed insight into the first twenty years of Esterházy’s artistic practice.
