Description

Clony is now available in both Hungarian and English, published as the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name held at MODEM in Debrecen from 21 November 2020 to 14 February 2021.
In his exhibition and catalogue Clony, Zsolt Ferenczy articulated a critique of capitalism, progress, and accumulation through visual dialogues between interconnected processes. The exhibition itself took on the character of a Kunstkammer, or cabinet of curiosities, reflecting the broad spectrum of moods and genres within Ferenczy’s practice. Through paintings, drawings, short films, installations, and objects, it evoked imagery that was dramatic and traumatic, at other times humorous, absurd, or even imaginary.
Within his cabinet of curiosities, Ferenczy used imperfect clones of remembered images of various totalitarian systems to examine the relationship between humanity and nature, alongside the mechanisms of alienation and exploitation. At the same time, he explored their causes, questions of origin, and the possibilities of survival and self-defence.
